Finally, on 8th March, on International Women’s Day, I chose the best movie to watch, and I regret not watching this movie earlier when it was released in 2022.
I love watching female protagonist movies where women are shown as the main characters of the movies.
This movie is directed by one of my favourite directors, Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
One of the major reasons why I love watching his movies is how beautifully he represents women; each and every character, along with the set of the movie, is so aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
The way Alia Bhatt has acted in this movie and shown every emotion of hers is just so amazing; one of her best works I have seen.

What is Gangubhai Kathiawadi movie about?
This story is based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by writer and investigative journalist Hussain.
Gangubhai Kathiawadi’s real name was Ganga Harjivandas, who belonged to a reputed family of Gujarat but ran away with her boyfriend Ramnik Lal to become an actress in Mumbai. Destiny had a different plan; he sold her into the prostitution business for Rs 1000 when she was only 16 at the brothel in Kamathipura, and since then she was working as a sex worker.
This woman, Gangubhai Kathiawadi, is a true example of how to turn pain into power.
She was truly the epitome of strength & resilience.
Things changed when she was exploited physically and financially by a goon named Shaukat Khan Pathan. Later, she asked for help from the underworld don Karim Lala for the help and made him her brother.
She did everything to come into power so that she could help her fellow sex workers there kids, girls who were sold unknowingly into the business of prostitution.

Final thoughts on Movie Gangubhai Kathiawadi
This movie is really thought-provoking and has shed light on the social issues. Alia Bhatt’s class act and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction are something that you can’t miss, so yes, according to me, this movie is definitely worth watching.
